Nominations for 2025 Grande Prairie municipal election opening January 2nd

Nominations for the City of Grande Prairie’s 2025 Municipal Election will open up on January 2nd.

The nomination period will run from January 2nd, until noon on September 22nd, and residents will head to the polls on Election Day, which is scheduled for October 20th, 2025, to cast their votes for one Mayor and 8 council members.

Candidates can submit their papers in person at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to noon on September 22nd; however, outside of Nomination Day, prospective candidates must make an appointment with the Returning Officer by calling (780)-357-4954 or by email to file their papers.

As the campaign season quickly approaches, the city is encouraging all residents to be mindful of their right to vote, saying active participation in the democratic process is “essential” in building a strong, healthy community.

Voters are encouraged to register ahead of time to ease the voting process, eliminating the need to register at the voting location. Registration can be completed on the Elections Alberta website.

The city maintains further information for voters, including polling locations, and the list of confirmed candidates will be made available on their website as it becomes available.
