City launches two healthcare attraction and retention projects amid physician shortage in Grande Prairie

Invest GP has launched the Family Physician Attraction Incentive Program under the city council’s ongoing Healthcare Attraction and Retention Strategy to support local healthcare workforce shortages.

According to the city, this step of the program focuses on increasing awareness, offering targeted incentives, and strengthening infrastructure to attract and retain family physicians, who will commit to practicing in Grande Prairie for “at least” three years.

The city adds the program is not only designed to attract new healthcare practitioners but also focuses on retaining them by supporting their integration and providing resources to help their families settle down in the swan city.

The application portal opened on January 1st, and eligible physicians can apply online on the city’s website.

In support of the Incentive Program, the Grande Prairie Healthcare Ambassador Program was created to identify community leaders and volunteers who can assist the Invest GP team in welcoming new healthcare workers throughout their re-locating process.

Interested individuals can email Invest Grande Prairie to indicate their interest and receive additional details and eligibility requirements.
