City council rejects cost of living raise

City council has turned down a proposed pay raise. A committee had recommended a one per cent increase, based on the Alberta Consumer Price Index. Over the past 12 months, the cost of living has gone up by that amount.

City councillors voted against the suggestion Monday night, saying they recognize the impact the economic downturn has had on the community. The mayor makes a base salary of just under $89,600, while council makes $33,500.
