Quick response saves Patterson home from spreading vehicle fire

A bystander with a fire extinguisher and a quick response by firefighters is being credited with saving a house from fire damage. A vehicle was reported on fire in the 7200 block of Patterson Drive around 10:20 a.m. Sunday morning.

When the Grande Prairie Fire Department arrived within five minutes, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames, which were spreading to the edge of the attached garage’s roof. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the vehicle, and checked to make sure the fire hadn’t spread into the home’s attic.

Everyone inside at the time was able to make it out safely, and no injuries were reported. The fire department also says a bystander had a fire extinguisher and was able to help control the fire.

The cause is now under investigation.
