New liquor store opening up at Northgate Safeway

Safeway Canada has broken ground on a new liquor store in the parking lot of their Northgate location here in Grande Prairie.

Safeway Public Affairs Manager Betty Kellsey says despite the high number of liquor stores that already exist in the community, they still saw a desire for it.

“We do a lot of extensive market research whenever we’re promoting something new in the community, so certainly we did a lot of research to ensure there was a strong indication that this was something in that community that Safeway customers are hoping for.”

The store will include Safeway’s standard selection of products, as well as newer items like craft beers.

Kellsey says the trifecta of Grocery Store, gas station, and liquor store is all about making things just that much more convenient for their customers.

She expects the 7,700 square foot location will be ready to open in time for the holidays.
