Windrow clearing pilot project now underway

The City of Grande Prairie’s pilot project to remove driveway windrows officially gets underway today. Council has included $350,000 to its snow removal budget to add an extra piece of equipment that will follow the plows and clear windrows.

They won’t be trucked away, but will instead be pushed aside or stored on the property frontage. The $350K is based on an estimate of crews going through residential neighbourhoods four times this winter.

In total, there are roughly 8,500 more driveways to be cleared on top of those that were already being addressed through the green pylon program for elderly and disabled residents. At the end of the winter, the future of the program will be determined.
