People could soon see some more new artwork in the downtown core. Art in the Alley is the Grande Prairie Downtown Association’s newest plan to make spending time in the area a more enjoyable experience.
New Downtown Association Executive Director Wendy Bosch says that adding things like murals and paintings will make people feel safer downtown which will draw more visitors.
“When people feel comfortable you’ll see more foot traffic and with that comes more of the public coming downtown. We want to bring people downtown again and show them what the heart of Grande Prairie has to offer.”
The artwork would be located at the back entrances to businesses that are being affected by the ongoing construction. Bosch hopes the artwork will add another attraction to the area.
“I think it’s going to be a feature for average people, for children for seniors and for tourists. People come in and either want to take pictures or take a selfie. Everybody and their dog is gonna wanna take a selfie near some of these images.”
The Downtown Association is still in the planning stages for the project but Bosch hopes they will be able to have some of the artwork up before this winter. How it will be funded has not yet been determined.
Bosch replaces Helen Rice, who recently retired from the position she held since 1999.
