Grande Prairie tax increase could be less than expected

Taxes may not be going up as much as expected for Grande Prairie residents.

A 4.2 per cent increase was approved in January, but city council is looking at reducing that rate.

Finance Manager Susan Walker explains that assessment growth is up more than expected in the budget.

As well, the provincial school requisition has also risen 8.5 per cent.

A tax increase of 3.6 per cent will be voted on at Monday’s city council meeting.

If approved, it would mean taxes on an average home assessed at $360,000 will go up by $116 instead of $129.
