Steps for Life fundraiser Saturday

Members of the community who have had loved ones killed at the workplace will have an opportunity to honor those loved ones this Saturday at Muskoseepi Park.

The Steps for Life 5K walk for families of workplace tragedies aims to raise money for the Threads of Life Family support program. Steps for Life Spokesperson Katie Geisbrecht says she wants any family who has lost a loved one to a workplace tragedy to be able to take advantage of the supports Threads of Life can provide

“It’s a support network to those who have experience similar pain and suffering, and it’s advisory support regarding workplace investigations and opportunities to promote workplace injury prevention and awareness of workplace safety.”

Geisbrecht lost her son to a workplace tragedy in 2012. She says these are incidents and not accidents because they are preventable, and there is a lot more work to be done.

The walk goes Saturday with registration starting at 10 am and the walk beginning at 11. Geisbrecht says she believes they’ve already more than doubled their fundraising goal of $5000.
