The 13th annual Growing the North Conference will once again be a virtual-only event.
Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce CEO Tanya Oliver says the precedent for the virtual conference was set in 2021, and she is hopeful to see similar or better results in 2022.
“We estimate that we had about 275 participants. This year, we are hoping to reach more people… our participants are spread far and wide throughout the province.”
Several guest speakers have been lined up for the event, but, Oliver says she is particularly excited for David Goldstein, the recently named CEO of Travel Alberta.
“We heard from him last week about the rebranding of the Tourism Association and he seems very aware of the potential we have up in the Northwest of our province.”
A subject being discussed in the upcoming conference is Truth and Reconciliation. Oliver says she feels good about Grande Prairie’s efforts in that regard.
“Like everything, we have lots of room for improvement as well. Definitely looking forward to hearing some practical information that we can apply in the business community and the municipalities.”
The goal of the conference is to attract investment in the Peace Country part of the province and highlight the unique attributes that every area brings.
The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is a new organizing partner for the upcoming conference, one of ten partners. Tickets can be purchased on the Growing the North Conference website. The conference is set to run February 22nd to 24th.
